The two teams participate in a talent competition and the rivalry between two people intensifies rapidly. In the contest, after a stunning performance by a Gopher, the Bass need a miracle to win, but due to one camper's beatboxing they win. To save herself from inevitably being voted off, someone tricks a few Gophers to vote off one of the hottest campers.
[edit] Recap
The episode opens with Lindsay whining to Gwen about being out of fake tan products. Gwen, who has just woken up, expresses great disinterest and sarcasm, to which Lindsay is oblivious to. Chris's voice soon blares out of the speakers asking if the campers got enough sleep and asks that they show what they're made of in the next challenge.
The scene goes to the two teams sitting in a wooden auditorium in front of a stage. While they wait, Lindsay asks if they're going to be watching a musical, Trent sees Gwen and tells her he had saved her a seat, Heather gives dirty look because of the interaction, and Lindsay blows a kiss to Tyler. He catches it and winks at her. She looks at Heather, who has been glaring at her, then as Heather turns her head sharply in the other direction she gets hit by Heather's ponytail.
Chris eventually comes out and tells the campers that they will be doing a talent show as the challenge. Both teams have eight hours to pick their three most talented teammates. The three will represent them in the talent show. Over at the Screaming Gophers meeting place, Heather declares herself team captain, but Gwen is a little apprehensive. Gwen goes on to question Heather's authority, and an argument escalates. Their fight is interrupted when Trent comes up giving Gwen an extra muffin. Heather asks Trent if he's okay with her leading the team for the talent show. He agrees, not really caring either way. Heather then officially declares herself, Lindsay, and Beth to be the judges.
Over at the Killer Bass meeting place, the first ones to audition are Katie and Sadie. The two do a dance similar to the one in Katie's audition. Courtney, who seems to have become the judge for the Bass, along with all the other team members, doesn't like the their performance, and turn Katie and Sadie down. For his audition with the Gophers, Owen drinks a big bottle of soda then burps the entire alphabet. All the guys cheer and commend Owen for his accomplishment. However, Heather refuses to let him use that as a talent in the contest and calls it disgusting. Trent comes to his defense by asking her if she knows how hard it is to burp the entire alphabet in one go.
Back with the Killer Bass, Tyler is seen yo-yoing. He starts off okay, but then gets himself tangled in the yo-yo string. For the Gophers, Heather does ballet and is quickly accepted to compete by Lindsay and Beth. Heather tells everyone to take five and then quickly pulls Lindsay aside asking her if she can keep a secret. Lindsay then tells her a story about her older sister, Paula getting diarrhea during a date and how she never told a soul, then remembers that she's on national television, looks at the screen, and apologizes to her sister. Heather shoves a walkie-talkie into her hand and tells her to follow Gwen an report back.
Lindsay is following Gwen and becomes very bored. She then sees Tyler, who is still tied up in his yo-yo string, through her binoculars, and is happy she found something "interesting". Back over at Team Bass, DJ does a ribbon dance for his audition. His performance is enough for him to become the team's first representative. Bridgette goes up next, saying she can stand on her head for twenty minutes. She demonstrates, but Courtney rejects her quickly, saying the talent is more suited for monkeys. Harold walks up next, but is shot down by her before he can do anything but take in a breath.
The scene then switches to Lindsay and Tyler making out while Heather yells through the walkie-talkie asking if she found anything. She hurriedly replies "On my way back, under", and the scene goes back to the Bass. Geoff is seen doing tricks on a skateboard, and he is chosen to compete. The Bass have their three representatives now; off-screen, Courtney was chosen to be the second one after performing a solo with her violin. However, as she is practicing, Bridgette bets Harold, Geoff, and a few other guys on her team that she really can stand on her hands for twenty minutes. Everyone in the group throws in a little cash and other choch-keys as part of the bet. Bridgette starts to stand on her hands, and does so successfully for a short while. She then accidentally gets her leg tangled up on a rope that was holding up a light in the amphitheater, which comes crashing down directly over Courtney's head and smashes her violin in two. Courtney is very upset about her violin and is forced to wear a bandage around her head. As a result of this chaos, Bridgette now has to compete in the show in place of Courtney.
Back at the Gophers, Izzy is doing her snake dance, which captures the attention of Owen. Next up is Beth, whose talent is twirling fire batons. She does great until she tosses one of her two batons in the air. She can not catch it and everybody hastily ducks for cover. One baton burns a whole in the ground, while the other sets a bush on fire. Then, in a dramatic sequence, Justin comes out with a fire extinguisher and puts the fire in the bush out. Heather, awestruck with the rest of the girls over Justin's beauty, declares that the three representatives will be herself, Justin, and Trent. Gwen is then shown writing in her journal alone, trying to get some time to herself. Cody then comes over to chat with her. Gwen ignores him while he tries to make small talk. He then tries to sniff her hair, but is called a wierdo for it. When Gwen goes back to the cabins she changes to go swimming so Trent decides to come along, much to Gwens pleasure.
Later, Gwen goes out swimming with Trent. Gwen points out that almost everyone is driving her crazy, Trent being one of the exceptions. Cody and Owen then jump in the water, getting Gwen all wet and having her leave which makes Trent a little mad. Back at the cabin, Heather seizes the opportunity to sneak into Gwen's drawer and steal her diary. Before the show, Bridgette is eating a bag of chips while talking with Courtney. Heather then comes up and discretely accuses her of sabotaging her teammate so that she could get her time in the spotlight. Bridgette retorts, saying that the Gophers may work that way, but the the Bass are a team and help each other, leading Heather to insult her over eating too many chips. Bridgette responds by throwing the bag of chips in her face. Soon after, the talent show starts. Each camper chosen to represent their team with their talent will perform, and Chef Hatchet will then score the performance on the "Chef-O-Meter" (a scale of zero to nine). Justin goes first for the Gophers. He does his flash dance, ending with water splashing onto him. He scores six out of a possible nine points from Chef Hatchet. Next up is DJ with his ribbon dance. His legs somehow get tangled in the ribbon and he gets only two points for the flop. Up next, Trent sings a song about Gwen and gets the highest score yet - eight out of nine points. Bridgette goes up next with her hand-standing talent. She starts off, but almost immediately throws up because of all the chips she ate before showtime. She ends up puking on other campers, prompting them to throw up on each other. She then slips on her own puke and falls into Tyler's lap. Lindsay is outraged and yells at her to puke on her own boyfriend, but is quickly silenced by Heather. Chris then orders an unscheduled commercial break to clean up the mess, much to Bridgette's humiliation.
After the break, it is discovered that Bridgette still earns a two out of nine for her "performance". Next up is Heather, who announces that she has decided to read pages from Gwen's diary about Trent to the entire viewing world, instead of doing a ballet number. Gwen, embarrassed to no end, runs off while Bridgette and Courtney comment about how uncalled-for the act was. Geoff is about to go on when he accidentally breaks his skateboard in two. With Katie and Sadie covered in vomit and Tyler and Duncan not having any outstanding talent, Bridgette and Courtney reluctantly pick Harold to go as a replacement. He acts as a human beat-box, and does incredibly, shocking everyone. He wins the Bass the competition, receiving a perfect score of nine from Chef. In the confessional, Heather reveals that to save herself from being voted off inevitable, she is getting four other campers to vote off Justin with her. She decides on Lindsay and Beth, since they are part of her alliance, Izzy, because she is crazy, and Owen, whom she bribed with a piece of cake.
At the campfire ceremony, Heather and Justin are the last two campers to not receive a marshmallow. In an extremely controversial result, Justin is sent home. Even Chris is upset and shocked about the elimination for the first time. Gwen and some of the other campers are annoyed that Heather is safe. Afterward, Gwen exacts revenge on Heather by dumping Harold's red ant farm in her bed, causing her to scream and run out of the cabin that night.
[edit] Cast
Justin, Tyler, Duncan, Sadie, Chef and LeShawna appear, but have no lines.
[edit] Quotes
- Chris: (about the talent show) Sing, dance, juggle. Anything goes, (looks at Duncan) as long as it's legal. (Duncan snaps his fingers, frowning)
- Heather: I need you to do something. Can you keep a secret?
Lindsay: Oh, my gosh, definitely! My sister got diarrhea once on a date and I had to bring her toilet paper because the restaurant was all out and she was stuck in the bathroom and I've never told a soul. (looks at the camera uneasily and waves) O-oops. Sorry, Paula...
- Geoff: I'm going to be on TV, man!
Bridgette: You're already on TV, Geoff.
Geoff: Oh, yeah. (to camera) Hello out there, dudes!
- (Beth twirls fire batons)
Heather: Are you sure this is safe?
Beth: It's okay. I've been practicing. (she tosses one in the air and it falls to the ground, burning a hole in the earth) I kinda missed the catching class...
- (Cody smells Gwen)
Gwen: What are you? Some kind of freak?
Cody: You just... smell really pretty.
Gwen: It's just... soap.
- Bridgette: (after dropping a light on Courtney) Oh crap!!
- Heather: (in confessional after taunting Killer Bass members) What a bunch of losers. It's so easy, it's almost not fun. Almost.
- Owen: (in confessional) There are two syllables for hot, "Jus" and "Tin". Man, that guy is just so hot, I could kiss him! (pause) Because he's a good team mate! Oh, why did I say that?!
- Trent: (singing) They say we've only got summer. And I say that's really a bummer. But we'll swim in the sun and have lots of fun. It'll just be the two of us. Nothing to do just hang. So, let me say only this. Stick around for just one kiss.
- Bridgette: (in confessional) Going home won't be so bad. I could always work at the surf shack...
- Courtney (about Heather's diary reading): That was so mean.
Bridgette: Seriously!
- Bridgette: Now what?! We have to send someone out there or we're going to lose this!
Courtney: Katie and Sadie are covered in barf!
Bridgette: Well, that only leaves Tyler, Duncan, or Harold. We already know that Tyler sucks. What can Duncan do again?
Courtney: Carve a picture of his own skull into a tree! What are we going to do?!
- Heather: (in confessional; about her reading Gwen's diary; about who to vote off) People thought I was mean to Gwen. Whatever. All I needed was four votes against Justin. Lindsay and Beth were easy, Izzy's just crazy, and Owen? Piece of cake.
(switches to Owen; coincidentally eating a piece of cake)
Owen: (in confessional; chuckling) Piece of cake.
- Chris: Kudos to you all for an incredible night of entertainment. Music, drama, barfing! There's only one marshmallow left on this plate. Justin, you reminded us that looks matter a lot. And Heather, you're full of surprises. But reading a chick's diary out loud to the entire viewing world... Man, that is whack... no kidding; that's really screwed up, dude.
Heather: Oh, please, just give me my marshmallow already!
- Gwen: (in confessional, regarding Heather) If that evil little cow thinks she's going to get away with this, she's got another thing coming.
(scene switches to Gwen knocking on the Killer Bass' boys cabin door; Harold comes out)
Gwen: Did you say you brought a red ant farm with you?
Harold: Yes.
(later, Heather comes out of the cabin screaming and covered in ants)
Gwen: (in bed) Sweet dreams, everyone! (chuckles as Heather is still heard screaming outside)
[edit] Trivia
- Title Reference: This episode title is a parody of the comedy-drama film, "Almost Famous".
- The episode is rated in Cartoon Network, TV-PG D.
- All dialog edits can be found on the Edits page.
- It is worth noting that this episode had very little censoring compared to the others.
- The following is the ratings for the performances:
- Screaming Gophers
- Justin performed a model act. He was rated rated 6/10.
- Trent sang and played guitar. He was rated 8/10.
- Heather performed a reading (of Gwen's Diary). She was not rated (most likely due to her act merely being a deliberate attempt to humiliate Gwen).
- Killer Bass
- DJ performed ribbon twirling. He was rated 2/10.
- Bridgette did a handstand. She was rated 2/10.
- Harold did professional beat-boxing. He was rated 10/10. Bass win.
- Screaming Gophers
- The final marshmallow went to Heather in this episode.
- The campers in the Confessional stall for this episode were Heather, Owen, Bridgette, and Gwen.
- This marks the second (consecutive) loss for the Screaming Gophers and the second (consecutive) win for the Killer Bass.
- Though he doesn't officially speak, Justin's voice can faintly be heard when the Gophers are cheering for Owen after he burps the alphabet (his lips are also moving when they cheer).
- Though Duncan did not speak, he can be heard saying "Woo..." during DJ's performance.
- This is the first time since the second episode that Izzy and Bridgette has had any dialog.
- Originally, for the Killer Bass, it was Geoff doing skateboard tricks and Courtney playing the violin. However, they dropped out when Geoff broke his skateboard and Bridgette accidentally dropped a spotlight onto Courtney's violin.
- Harold wins the competition for his team by using his talent as a beatboxer.
- This is the second consecutive time that Harold overcame the odds and was solely responsible for his team winning. The first is in Dodgebrawl, the previous episode.
- How Justin went home is a mystery. Heather convinces Beth, Lindsay, Owen, and Izzy to go with her and eliminate Justin. Even then, there would have been five votes for him. If Trent, Gwen, Leshawna, Cody, and Justin voted for Heather, that would total to five votes for her as well. This would result in a tie. The only plausible reason for him going home is if Justin voted for someone other than Heather, because Gwen and Leshawna immensely dislike Heather, and Trent and Cody would have voted her off for Gwen's sake. It is possible Justin voted Izzy due to her craziness and on how the two don't get along.
- Izzy's snake dance is a reference to Pulp Fiction.
- When Duncan is timing Bridgette's handstand, his watch is on his left wrist. Most people wear their watch on the hand opposite of their dominant hand, which could mean that Duncan is right handed. However, during the series, he primarily is shown to be ambidextrous and is one of two contestants who are.
- When Heather sees Cody and Gwen together she calls them "the first hook-up of the season". However, Lindsay and Tyler were actually the first hook-up, although Heather doesn't like seeing them as a couple so she possibly ignored this.
- Although each team got 14 points, the Killer Bass won for an unexplained reason. It is possible that Chef docked points from the Gophers because he found Heather's act so appalling.
- The campers who are not seen auditioning for the talent show are: Gwen, Duncan, LeShawna, Trent, Courtney, Cody, Justin, and Lindsay.
- This is one of only three episodes that the eliminated person did not speak. The other two were Camp Castaways (Mr. Coconut) and Haut Camp-Ture (LeShawna)
[edit] Goofs
- When Chris says "Loserville! Population: Four", there are actually only three campers who are at Playa Des Losers. However, it is possible he might have meant that one would be added.
- When the camera zooms out when Chris describes the outdoor theatre, Heather's hair is not in a ponytail, however it is seen in a ponytail before and after this shot.
- When Owen is getting ready to burp the alphabet, the bottle is nearly empty, but when Trent and Gwen are talking, he can still be heard in the background drinking.
- After Owen belches the alphabet, Chris' voice is heard saying "Man!", but Chris is not seen with the Screaming Gophers.
- When Heather says "Lindsay, come in..." through the walkie-talkie, the close captioning said that it was said by Paula, which was earlier revealed to be the name of Lindsay's sister.
- When LeShawna gives Justin a water bottle, her nose is right under her right eye, not in the middle of her face.
- When Heather was looking for Gwen's diary, she was searching a top bunk. However, Gwen sleeps on the bottom bunk next to Lindsay. Being on the Screaming Gophers with Gwen, Heather should know that. While it is unlikely, it could be possible Heather already searched a bottom bunk, and was frantically looking through everyone's bunks to find her diary.
- When Duncan is timing Bridgette, he has a watch on his right wrist, but it is only seen during that one scene.
- When Chris was getting ready to start the Talent Show, the hair under Katie's ear is missing.
- The Screaming Gophers technically won the challenge, as Justin, Trent, and Heather won a total of 14 points for their team. DJ, Bridgette, and Harold got a total of only 13 points. Even with Harold's perfect score, the Gophers should have won. Although, Harold's team may have won because he was the only person to get a full score.
